Officials in Sacramento County are examining a gunfire incident that unfolded Saturday evening at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were clearing an unlawful assembly of several hundred people.
How It Started
Deputies initially got calls about the park on Howe Avenue just after 6:30 PM after obtaining information of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Not long after, a follow-up call was made regarding a potential altercation taking place inside the park.
An overhead unit searched from above but found nothing Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 to substantiate the fight report. Regardless, authorities discovered that hundreds of people had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Law enforcement personnel began the process of clearing the park by surrounding the park and making announcements instructing the crowd to leave immediately. Nearly 15 minutes were spent for people to comply.
Just as the crowd began to move that upwards of 20 gunshots cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots caused mass panic. Officers at once began searching for victims.
The Shooting Victims
In total, four shooting victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. Those injured — consisting of one woman and three men each apparently in their early to late twenties — were taken to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Emergency physicians noted that two had critical injury classifications, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one person's injuries were considered minor. As of last report, all four were expected to survive.
Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and assisted with medical triage the injured at the park.
What Investigators Found
The center of the incident seemed to have happened along the Cottage Way corridor near the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators found more spent casings scattered along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were observed in the iron fence bordering the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries showed that a shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down as a precaution. Crime scene personnel worked tirelessly late into the evening.
Arrests Made
Intelligence received through law enforcement radio communications revealed that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been detained in the Solano County area. Four people were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for questioning. Video that was reviewed established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
